How “Chosen” Are the Jews?

92nd Street Y, New York, NY

Social historian Paula Hyman moderates a conversation with sociologist John Murray Cuddihy and Rabbi Irving “Yitz” Greenberg about what “chosen-ness” means to Jewish Americans. This is the first of four discussions about the “universal and particular trends that are indigenous to the Jewish tradition.” This series was produced by the 92nd Street Y in collaboration with the Radius Institute. Rabbi Steve Shaw, founder of the Radius Institute, introduces the discussion. Cuddihy speaks about the social “consequences” of “chosen-ness” while Greenberg defends the idea as a vital part of the Jewish tradition. The discussion is followed with questions from the audience.
